What is a transflective LCD?

A transflective LCD combines transmitted backlight and reflected ambient light. The balance between these modes depends on the panel design; it is not a universal 50/50 split.

What should you check for an outdoor display?

Compare readability in the intended lighting conditions, backlight power, viewing angle and module dimensions. Automatic backlight adjustment requires suitable sensing and control; it should not be assumed from the word “transflective”.

Validate the selected module in both bright and dim conditions using its datasheet and an application sample.
